Participatory Action Research With Adolescents and Young Adults (AYAs) With Lived Experience: Transforming Cancer Care, Together

Friday, June 19, 12 to 1 p.m. EDT, on Zoom

Over the last five years, the Anew Research Collaborative at Royal Roads University has been working together with AYAs and care allies to understand their distinct experiences and needs and co-design tangible changes in AYA cancer care and support.

    In this workshop, we will:

    1. Introduce Participatory Action Research and how we approach it in our work,
    2. Explore some essential guideposts when engaging in Participatory Action Research,
    3. Engage in interactive activities to explore Participatory Action Research in practice.

Come explore with us how you might apply Participatory Action Research principles and practices in your psychosocial oncology research and practice.

    Featuring:

Dr. Cheryl Heykoop (she/her), Associate Professor, Royal Roads University

Dr. Heykoop is a Michael Smith Health Research BC Scholar and Associate Professor in the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies at Royal Roads University. She leads a research collaborative, Anew, focused on reshaping cancer care for young adults in BC and Canada. Heykoop has over 20 years of experience leading patient-oriented, participatory action research projects. She has spent the last five years building relationships with young adults, researchers, and cancer care providers to co-create change in young adult cancer care and support in BC. She was diagnosed with cancer as a young adult.

    Fees:
