
Sevtap Savas, PhD (she/her) is an advocate, cancer scientist, and professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland.
She believes that every day is an opportunity to help reduce the effects of cancer through research, public engagement and outreach, leadership, and advocacy.
Her scholarly work focuses on medical and social outcomes of cancer patients, including identifying prognostic markers, post-cancer lived experiences, and patient priorities. She also does extensive public outreach activities on cancer.
Sevtap formed two very impactful patient-scientist partnerships: The Public Interest Group on Cancer (leading since 2021) and The Atlantic Cancer Consortium Patient Advisory Committee (2024 – 2026).
These partnerships have been critical for putting patients at the center of her work & designing public-facing research and public engagement activities where patient partners took various roles – from advisors and project coleaders to speakers and authors.
Sevtap sincerely thanks patient partners for collaborating with her and their impactful work; progressing the field of patient involvement in cancer; transforming her into an advocate; and nominating her for this award. She dedicates this recognition to them.
The CAPO Innovation Award honours the development of quality improvement and innovative clinical, educational, or organizational initiatives aimed at enhancing the performance of psychosocial cancer care or cancer prevention. Award submissions will be rated based on originality and scope, impact of initiative on processes, impact of initiative on stakeholders, meaningfulness, value for money and sustainability.
